Great Rivers 2-1-1 can help you find the resources you need in a variety of ways.

  • Call: Free, confidential community information, referrals and crisis line 24 hours/day. Dial 2-1-1 or (800) 362-8255 to talk to an information and referral specialist.
  • Chat: Chat with a specialist for community information or crisis services. It is available Monday through Friday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Search online: Use our database to find the resources you need.

Carrier Alert

Is there an older adult or person with a disability in your family or neighborhood? Be a friend. Help them register for Carrier Alert.

If living alone worries you, Carrier Alert offers the comfort of knowing that someone who visits your home regularly will call for help if you need it. This free service has been developed especially for older adults and people with disabilities—those who might have difficulty reaching vital services in case of an accident or sudden illness.

If you are registered with Carrier Alert, your letter carrier will provide a special service for you. A Carrier Alert decal will be placed on the inside of your mailbox. If your letter carrier notices an accumulation of mail or any other signs that might suggest you are in distress, it will be reported to Great Rivers 2-1-1.

  • An information and referral specialist at Great Rivers 2-1-1 will immediately try to contact you by phone.
  • If you cannot be reached, they will call people you listed as emergency contacts.
  • If the contact people cannot be reached, law enforcement will be notified and asked to check on your health and well-being.

Great Rivers 2-1-1's primary mission during times of disaster is to maximize community access to critical information and resources.

How does Great Rivers 2-1-1 assist during a disaster?

  • Offering support to disaster victims
  • Sharing accurate and up-to-date disaster resource information
  • Linking people who have needs with resources that can help them

Collaborative relationships within the community

  • Networking with other agencies involved in disaster relief and recovery efforts
  • Assisting with a county's disaster efforts (i.e. volunteer coordination, gathering disaster reports, tracking unmet needs)
  • Handling calls that might otherwise inappropriately go to 9-1-1, such as: Where do I go for shelter/food? Or, how can I help fill sand bags?
